KNOW YOURSELF HEAL YOURSELF

When we say “I” “Me” or “Myself” we mean it as a whole… our “mind, body and soul”. All three work in unison like an orchestra and if any one falls out of place, the rhythm is broken and we start feeling it through different symptoms, both physiological and psychological.

“Psychosomatic” means mind (psyche) and body (soma). A psychosomatic disorder involves both mind and body. Some physical ailments are thought to be particularly prone to be made worse by mental factors such as stress and anxiety. Our current mental state can affect how bad a physical disease is at any given time. Physical disorders are believed to have a mental component derived from the stresses and strains of everyday living. This is the case, for example, of lower back pain and high blood pressure, which appear to be partly related to stress in everyday life.

According to Alex Lickerman, M.D., “Emotional trauma often manifests as physical symptoms. Somatization is defined as the tendency to experience psychological distress in the form of physical symptoms.”

We may all experience psychosomatic symptoms to some extent but due to lack of awareness we keep suffering them unnecessarily. To get rid of the discomfort thus caused, we need to recognize them and decide to work towards eradicating them.

Your professional counsellor will guide you through, to recognize the psychological stimulus that is triggering the physiological symptoms and also to control these symptoms to a comfortable extent by working systematically to eradicate the same.
