Dr. Susmita Sen is a Consultant Psychiatrist who completed her medical graduation and
postgraduate training in Psychiatry from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata. She has
received structured clinical training in adult and geriatric psychiatry and works with a wide range
of psychiatric conditions using a patient-centred and balanced approach.
She has experience in the assessment and management of :-
mood disorders,
psychotic disorders,
anxiety disorders,
substance use disorders, and
neuro-cognitive disorders.
Her clinical work includes caring for patients with Dementia and the behavioural and psychological symptoms of Dementia, as well as experience in consultation–liaison psychiatry. She places strong importance on careful evaluation, ethical use of medication, and clear communication with patients and their families.
Dr. Sen’s interest in psychiatry comes from a genuine curiosity about human emotions,
behaviour, and the ways in which psychological distress affects everyday life. During her training, she found meaning in listening closely to patients and understanding their concerns that went beyond physical symptoms. This continued to shape her approach to clinical practice, and is still as important as it was yesterday.
Dr. Susmita believes psychiatry is built on both scientific understanding and human connection. She values honest conversations, takes time to understand her patients’ concerns, and works
collaboratively with them to develop treatment plans that are practical, respectful, and evidence-based.
Her practice is guided by empathy, patience, and ethical care.
Outside her work, Dr. Sen enjoys immersing herself in reading and in music, both of which help her to stay balanced and grounded.
She strives to create a calm, safe, and non-judgmental space where patients feel heard and supported, alongside feeling comfortable seeking help.
